You do not request respect, you command it.
Your behaviour should be so upright that even your enemies respect you for it. Yes, there are such people, I know a few.
Age, position, power are no parameters for true respect - maybe you get a display of some fake respect in such cases. But those who truly command respect are people of their word, who are mature, responsible, honest, and most importantly, respect other people.
Respect those elder and younger than you, and you will receive respect in return.

Well, there is that saying " You gotta give respect to get it" but some people are stubborn. People will respect you when you stand up for yourself.
