Some eBay sellers inflate the shipping and handling charges to make more money from their items. I always bid based on total cost, including the shipping and handling, so the greedy ones who charge too much get lower bids from me.

i have never shopped on ebay but i have watched plenty of informercials.
shipping and handling are two different things.
shipping has a catagory that it falls under. overnight, three day, six day and then the weight figured in. this cost is standard.
handling on the hand is all up to the seller. Say a seller thinks his time is worth $100 per hour and he takes 5 minutes to wrap and address your package. normally that would mean that his handling charge would be $100 divided by 12 (five minute units in and hour) or about $8.34 handling charge.
but that hour he may have gotten 6 orders and if he feels he is still worth $100 per hour he may double his handling charge to $16.68. Always check the handling charge on anything you do not buy in a store the shipping and handling could eat up any savings you may think you are getting by buying online.
