Oh for a minute I thought it was for a bored spirit (ennui)
But the Spirit Board like a fortunetelling and seance device is called a Planchette, which means board in French and is part of a longer name.
It's also called an OuiJa board because it was marketed like that around world war one, or the Franco Prussian war a generation before, the parts of the name mean yes in French and German, Oui and Ja. and was marketed to people who had lost sons or fathers or husbands in the war.
But why would God allow the living to torment the departed, with questions that will have no meaning after the living become the departed?
A parallel would be like the laws in some European countries that a grave gets dug up after a hundred years, the bones moved to a mausoleum or cremated, and the grave used again.
Because, you see, after you have been dead for a hundred years, everybody who knew you is dead too.
So why spend the time you have left trying to reach the other side? You get there eventually anyway, and compared to Eternity, the few years here and now won't even matter.
If the departed have anything to tell us it would probably be "hey, cool it, dude, there'll be plenty of time later. Just live out what's left then we can talk when we meet"
Besides, they are probably really busy talking to others they knew who crossed before they did.
Just live your life, and wait your turn, it comes soon enough.
If there is no afterlife, then you waste your time. If there IS an afterlife, you still waste your time.
and spend time you should be out living sitting in dark rooms thinking about death.

If you mean bored spirits, yeah there are a lot of them. They get their kicks by scaring the poop out of people. If you mean a communications device, well others have told you already.
