When I close my eyes, I am aware that my other senses are much more intense. I hear the deeper tones of music. I feel the allegro rising as the music picks up in pace. The sounds from an orchestra become a wonderful collaberation. And if people are singing, I listen quietly and can hear voices in the choir that I hadn't heard before. If I'm outside, nature sounds that I would normally miss become gifts of listening without seeing. I can then imagine what it looks like - pretty cool.
My sense of smell is heightened and supper smells extra good. Try smelling an orange or other citrus fruit with your eyes closed. It's amazing!
Your sense of touch will also increase and you may find yourself exploring objects (or people) in a whole different way. This is wonderful way to enrich your relationship with your significant other. Sit down, lie down, or stand by each other and just touch each other's faces. Then open your eyes and see how you feel with all of your "senses." This is a great way to "see" your partner in a whole new light.
I really liked your question. Doesn't thinking about this make you all the more thankful you have your eyesight?
Hope this helps.

I have before it's a little frightening at first, but then you start to learn to get tuned to your environment. It's actually quite fascinating. Imagine if we could remember what we felt like in our Mother's womb. I wonder if everyone was blind, would we still have prejudice, or racism....hmm? Anyone still in all I am happy I'm not blind.

When I close my eyes I see visions that I normally wouldn't see. As far as being blind, yeah it is scarey as hell to me. But all the blind people I have talked to have told me they are able to "sense" more things than the seeing.
The scarey part to me is I depend on 1 of 5 senses 90% of the time.
I think life might take away one of your senses, but I think the others increase to make up for it.
I could be a total idiot too

My friend is going blind rather quickly from severe macular degeneration, so I have thought about it quite a bit lately. He's a pretty incredible guy and is handling it well--- But I get quite upset thinking about his loss. For me, I'd be devastated. Not only would it be hard to function and scary, but I am so attached to seeing the beauty around me. I'd be so very very sad--- I'm really attached to music and sounds too, but I think if (somehow!) I had to choose among all my senses, I'd most hate to lose my sight.

We had to try this in nursing school. We were blindfolded and were required to do different tasks. Then we were handed objects and had to describe what it was by feel. There were some very interesting things that came from it such as size distortion (objects felt bigger than they looked), and distance distortion (when walking or reaching). The need for trust in another person (your guide who used only verbal directions and then silent tactile directions) were issues that we explored. My sister was in the same class with me and even though I trusted her, I found that I was hesitant following directions when I couldn't see - especially just the verbal directions.

My mother was partially blind, almost totally.
Yet she led a full life.
My friend is totally blind, he has a good guide dog and a positive attitude.
But yes, I tried it for a little while, very scary indeed.

I feel like that almost every morning. My wife is still sleeping when I wake up. I leave the lights off and fumble around in the dark for socks and under britches.

Yeah, I did... and those very moments, it seemed like I was, and I know I wasn't... but, with all those things in my mind... I got scared... I don't wanna be blind! Then, I realize I could just open my eys... Ya got me? Anyway, I realized how lucky we all are to be given that... being able to see... the beauty or the what-not's of this world... Still, we could see....
