I was talking to this guy and I told him there are more females in the world than males. He doesn't believe me. I believe it to be true. However, what do you think is there more females in the world than the male population? Is there anywhere on the internet where you can find out the statistics to the overall population and how many are male/female? I know the stats aren't exactly on point, but they'll usually estimate it off.

Surprisingly, the world population by gender is fairly equal.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau's Global Population Profile: 2002:
"The number of men and women on the globe was approximately
equal. "
"Men outnumbered women up through the 50-54 age group, after which women outnumbered men."

More recent data from U.S. Census Bureau World Population Information Database also confirms this.
World/2006
Total population: 6,528,051,823
Total population male: 3,286,346,545
Total population female: 3,241,705,278

I think there are more females, but logic would dictate the other way around. IN the two largest nation in the world, there is a habit that too be parents would get an ultrasound to determine the sex, and if its a female, the family would have an abortion. Its illegal in both countries. I think in other countries, they would keep having more kid until they get a male. THis would increase the female population.

I'm a bit surprised by the census statistics for the whole world. I've always thought there were "more women than men," but that may be true mostly for "developed" countries, and I happen to live in one so I tend know more about it and similar ones.

Whether there are more males or females can also depend on other populations too though... for example:

...more male babies are born than female babies (but more male babies die)

...males at "the end of life" tend to die 7-10 years sooner than females, but:
......more males are killed in violence, risky behavior, etc.
......more females die (in "underdeveloped" countries) from childbirth, their high number of childbirths, and related things

(those could fit with the age groups mentioned above too)

Here are the statistics for male and female *in the U.S.* from 2002 to 2006:

(more females than males)

males and females are nearly equal, despite the islamic fact that try to convence people that females are four times the males (and each male should marry 4 females), females are less than males by a small ratio.
u can search the stats sites on net to find out if i am saying the truth
