I wouldn't recommend taking anything without talking to doctor or pharmacist first, i had the same problem with my first pregnancy... can't help with medication, but what i did find that helped me heaps was warm cups of tea, or probably any warm liquid like hot chocolate etc... i found the warm tea seemed to ease the pain and almost slightly 'numb' the area so the pain wasn't near as bad... didn't last forever but usually long enough to help me go to sleep to 'sleep it off'... watch drinking too much tea unless its not a caffeine one, some doctors warn against and some say not to worry about too much caffeine... good luck and congrats on your pregnancy! P.S. I agree with putting pressure on your face with your hand, i did that when i laid down in bed, put my sore side on the pillow and put my hand in between my face and pillow and applied a bit of pressure...

I can sympathise. My wife is currently 9 weeks pregnant and had terrible toothache last week. All she could take painkiller wise was paracetamol, and only 8 in a 24 hour period. She was in so much pain I took her to A&E, hoping they could do something. They're only advise was to try dabbing some 'Clove oil' on it, but this tasted horrible and made my wife sick, the only other thing they said was to go to the dentist. Yes you do get free dental care when you're pregnant, but only on the NHS. If you can afford it you do get a better level of care if you go private, but it won't be cheap, let along free. My wife has now had a fair bit of work done at the dentist (she hates them to) but I remind her of how much pain she was in before and she realised the fear and pain of her trip to the dentist was all worth it in the long run. Try the clove oil to see if that helps, but do try and pluck up the courage to visit the dentist (take a friend or loved one along to hold your hand), it'll be well worth it in the end. Also the doctor told my wife, he wouldn't be able to use the same level of painkillers on her as he would normally and she might feel some pain. If your dentist says this don't let it scare you. My wife says she still barely felt anything. Good Luck.

No No and NOOOOOOO!!!
Do not take anything without your Dr's know how. As far as I know the only thing you can take is Paracetamol. Please be very careful - maybe ask your Dr if you can use teething gell. Also if you are experiencing toothache it is a sure sign that your body needs calcium which many woman lack during pregnancy - please make sure you are taking your vitamins and extra calcium in order to have a good pleasant pregnancy. Also speak to your dentist and see what can be done??? And please make sure he knows you are pregnant and how to treat you without harming the baby.

My niece did, she got Maximum strength Ora-gel . It should be safe cause you don't swallow much of it. I have also used it and it is great. You have to put it on a few times but, for cavities it works good. You might have an abscess witch is going to need more than that. You should be able to take Tylenol. Hope you feel better. Also you might try putting warm wet washcloth on it and that sometimes helps with the pain.

If you haven't done this, hold as much of the side of your face and jaw as you can in your hands and use one hand to make the "holding hand" press harder. If you have a heating pad or hot water bottle (or can make one) press that against the face.
If you can (with your hand or something hot) hold the face as tightly as possible, keep your mouth closed (because "cold" air coming in can make it worse), and breathe with slow, deliberate, breaths it may help after you do all this for a while.
It can help if you put your face in your hands while you're sitting (and you're elbows are on your lap). Hold your face as tight as you can and do rock back and forth really quickly (not "big" movements but short and very quick ones) and try to concentrate on the rocking rather than the face - in a little while you may find the pain in the face dies down.
