I had an evening class tonight and about 5 minutes before I get up, I notice my lower back felt kind of funny, but I didn't think anything of it. But right as I was getting up to leave, suddenly I couldn't move or get up, my back was in such excruciating pain. How I willed myself to the car seemed a miracle in itself. I can barely move... my lower back just is completely out once I tried getting up from my chair. Does anyone know what caused this? A muscle spasm? Pinched nerve? I can barely move. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Muscle spasm. They can be excruciatingly painful. Pinched nerve could be the cause, but sometimes a wrong movement can cause a spasm. Prolonged sitting and waist bending can cause it as well. If you don't have alot of pain or burning down your leg(s), it's doubtful it would be a slipped disc. Stay down for a day or two and see if it settles down.

Your back does whatever it has to to stabilize the backbone, usually without complaining, but when it passes some limit things complain loudly. Warmth sometimes helps the affected muscle relax, so things can get back to normal. My brother backs into a corner in the kitchen where he can put his elbows on counter tops then gradually bends the knees to stretch his back to relieve the pressure. My wife had a similar problem in the lower back, and the Chiropractor said get something frozen about twice the size of your fist, and put it on the floor and lie on it. (There will be a position that feels "good" relatively speaking) That helped her.

Called a Lumbard Strain (probably spelled wrong, pronounced right though) Go to the ER, usually they give a Cortizone shot for it and it does miracles. Yes, it is major pain, breath taking pain. I feel so sorry for you, I get them and so does my Husband, very, very, VERY painful. Good luck. (Heating pad can be easing too, after the shot, or a dose of muscle relaxers from a doctor)

sounds like a pulled muscle. (have had a few in my lower back). its usually caused from heavy lifting, or even just bending/turning/sitting the wrong way. this sounds crazy, but i've known somebody who just simply bent over to pick something up off of the floor and pulled a huge muscle in his lower back. go to a doctor, he will give you pain meds and muscle relaxers to help the muscle heal.

sitting in an unnatural position for any length of time can cause this and also getting a catch in your back.It will last a day or two and then be gone.Im old and I have had this since i was very young..every once in awhile we move in a certain way and it catches but it will work out ,just takes a day or two .. nothing really to be concerned about we all have had it a time or two .

well it could be a number of things. did u do any heavy lifting? Maybe u pulled muscle or your back could be out of alignment. also more serious things could be a hernited disc or fracture to spine. but, it sounds like a pinched nerve or a pulled muscle.

Muscle spasm, it pulls on your spine and compresses your disk, which could lead to a pinched nerve....I've been there done that...a chiropractor will be your best friend.....see one tomorrow...it worked for me and worth every penney
