How should one begin to write a story or script? I'm a college student with a bad case of writers block as I "attempt" to create a story from scratch.

Whatever I end up writing will quickly be made into a small independent college film. I am on no deadline but sooner would be better.

I've sat in my room and out in the world trying to spark ideas, a story...but its hard to get started. I do feel confident that once I get the ball rolling things will be a little easier.

Any tips to get started writing?

Any writers would like to contact me and share some ideas?

Just click my Avatar and contact me. Thanks!

I wrote a script last quarter for a class like that. My instructor told us to write about something that we can connect with and that we are interested in. I know it was hard to start. I just sat with some friends and asked them to tell me stories or even ideas they had for me to use. From that, I ended up thinking of great ideas. Carry around a notepad and/or tape recorder because once that idea pops in your head... you need to start writing as much as you can!!! Also, try looking through newpapers... there are always ideas to pick at and form into your own. Try to make it something that you would enjoy making and actually forming into your film. It's an awesome experience. Don't try to make everything perfect at first. You will have to re-write a few times at least. Get your ideas out and then put them in place when you're ready. Don't worry about formatting til last. I hope this helps. Good luck with it! :)

Howdy! I'm a fellow writer, I am taking a Creative Fiction Writing course this semester. Perhaps the story is about you sitting in your room, trying to come up with a story. Maybe the story is about something else, but my teacher told us that all good stories start with a character sketch. He says, "How can you know what the story is if you don't know who is going to act in it?" He's right, you know?

Start with a character; who is this guy or gal? What motivates them in life...what do they want? Then what obstacles can you throw in their paths so it becomes a struggle to get what they want? How will they resolve their conflict? There is your story. Start there and I'm sure the rest will write itself! Remember, have fun, and good luck!

I know it sounds like the lamest thing to say. But the best way is to take a fairly long walk. I suggest doing that right after something you don't like has just ended, that seemed to last way too long. It may not happen the first 20 times, remember that there's always a 21st time.

I don't know who said it, but I think the quote is: "Write what you know" or something...

Write about an area of life that you know something about. Base your characters and setting on something similar to your experiences - because its much more difficult to create a story in an unfamiliar setting. What do you know about? start there and see if that helps. good luck.

I can offer some insight, but ultimately, something that you like or that matters to you is a good place to start to find some inspiration.

Good luck.
