It has to deal with how the words TV and Movie are used in our language. It does not make sense to say I was in TV. It does however make sense to say I was in a TV show. Just Like I was in a movie.

Maybe because when you think of movies you think of the big screen so you are IN the screen. TVs are more portable so you are ON one. Being ON something i less permanent than being IN it. It's like a fly can land ON your ice cube and you'd never know it but if a fly is IN your ice cube it's not able to go anywhere else...

Because movies are stories, but television is an object.
For example when you're IN a movie, you're ON screen, and when you're IN a tv series, you're on.
"movie" and "tv series" are literature, "screen" and "television" are objects.
we don't say jerry seinfeld is on the show seinfeld, we say he's in the show seinfeld. But when the show is on the television, he's on TV.
