in this job, and so, can you please advise if I am required to give notice. Also, my new employers have not asked me for references, so I do not have to worry about that, but do I have to serve notice without having a contract, or does it take immediate effect?

If there is no contract, there is nothing to hold you to & so you can just go. Good luck in Ireland.

If you have worked for a company for more than 6 months, this becomes your contract. Everything you normally do, day to day is written into the contract and has to be negotiated before anything can be changed.
It is professional courtesy to give notice. I would say a minimum of 1 week.

A contract doesn't have to be written - it can also be verbal, and would still require notice to be served. If I were you, I would let your current employers know about your intentions.

i think the theory is that you should give a week's notice if you are paid weekly, a month if you are paid monthly. you can leave straight away if you really need to, but i think that mitigating factors would need to be there. did your new irish employer not ask what notice you needed to give in your old job?

make sure you leave on good terms if possible, your new company will respect that and it's the professional thing to do. contract is implicit if you are undertaking the duties and getting paid. good luck!

Dude tell em they aren't likely to want you to work if you don't want to be there.

In any case you can always pull a sickie if they do. What are they gonna do send someone to Ireland to spy on you.

Have you got holidays owed to you. Two weeks notce two weeks holidays. Just tell them they dont have to pay you your holidays.
