Well, the general wisdom is that true happiness can only come from within. Simply seeking happiness does not seem to work. People derive happiness from feeling good about themselves, about what they are doing, how they are living their life. The happiest people seem to be those whose first thoughts are to fulfill their own obligations, help others, seek wisdom, and fully live every moment of their lives. Some attribute everything to God, and most have a large circle of friends and acquaintances.
Still, we can get a glimpse of happiness from outside ourselves. Being loved, a beautiful day, hugging a child or a puppy, receiving a compliment, discovering the book we just bought is the best we've ever read, listening to music, so many things!
I like to sleep late, but I get happiness from getting up early, reading something spiritual for a half hour, shower, and eat breakfast. From there, I always have a productive day. Wish I did it more often!

Take up a new hobby. For Christmas I gave myself a guitar and start my first formal lesson tomorrow. I already love strumming away on it and cannot wait to learn more. Does you city have a "leisure guide" or a community center near by? There may be a course in there you would like...pottery, art, dance, cooking...the list is endless. These types of courses don't cost very much and will open your eyes to something that may make you happy.

I am retired so I wake up when I want to, go to sleep when I want to, read etc. when I want to.
What makes me really happy is when I get an e-mail from my daughter or when she visits me. (she lives in Central Oregon and I live in WA)
I feel a certain amount of satisfaction when I've paid all my bills and balanced my checking account--I've only been doing that for 2 years.
My cats and dog make me happy. They share so much with me.
There are alot of squirrels in my neighborhood and watching them do the things they do makes me very happy.
Knowing most of the people in my neighborhood are senior citizens and we all have each others back makes me very proud and it makes me feel productive and happy
