What it really means is that a man wants a GOOD wife and mother. I don't mean too sound too negative, but what most of us men really look for in a woman is someone who can cook well, be a wonderful mother and want us at night. If you can do these things, you will keep any man once they get to know you.
If you are really wanting to know how to keep a man, look at this book. It's what every man wants from their wives, and discusses why men REALLY get divorced.
The Proper Care And Feeding of Husbands by Dr. Laura Schlesinger

Is it true that the shortest way to a man’s heart is through his stomach? Does it still hold true nowadays?

Long long ago, the men goes hunting and the women cooks.
The men after a long day deserves a good meal and if she cooks well, they will have a good and satisfied evening ( including sex).
That is why most parents teaches the daughters to cook and satisfy the husband and in return they will get all the satiafaction.
This believe still stands but I am not sure it will be the only factor in a husband/ wife relationship.
Good Luck

Things were different back in the 50's and 60's. Women were supposed to be good cooks and homemakers. That's where the saying came from.
Nowadays, things are a little different. "The way to anyone's heart is through the stomach" rings true.
Who wouldn't love a B/F or G/F who's a good cook.

As a woman who loves to cook and is very good at it, I can assure you this is still true. Oh, it helps to be personable and attractive, but I really get 'em with my cooking.
And it's not just about feeding them, it's feeding them well from your own kitchen with delicious food you've made with your own hands.
I'm single and have a number of guy friends, just friends, who I practice my cooking on to keep my skills honed. They're all totally in love with me.

Well if you want to reach his heart, warm his belly. My hubby gets so tickled with me when I show him I care by preparing a meal. It makes him feel like I respect and appreciate him if I am domestic. I think it's true even today, for normal healthy men.

I don't think so anymore... Most women have careers nowadays (as opposed to 20 years ago)... who has time to slave over a hot stove for a man?... My fiance understands that we're going OUT to eat.. no question about it.. he still loves me...:)

Eh..I suppose most guys would appreciate a home-cooked meal, but I don't think that's what they all look for. I'm a great cook but my fiance can cook even better than I can, lol.
