For most of her life, my 11-year-old daughter has been best friends with "Tammy," age 9. Tammy is the daughter of good friends.
In recent weeks, every time my daughter has called her, Tammy has some reason to hang up the phone, so the conversations are very short. When my daughter tries to get together with Tammy, there is always some excuse why she can't come over. When we ran into Tammy at a football game, she totally avoided us and walked around the stadium with her nose in the air.

My daughter is so upset that she cries her heart out for hours at a time. My wife and I have loved Tammy like our own, and I don't understand why she is being so callous. What can we do?

I think that Tammy might be feeling awkward about being friends with someone who isn't her age, and why your daughter doesn't hang out more with friends her own age. I'd advise you to be sympathetic to your daughter, but to be somewhat forgiving to Tammy as well, because they are both at ages where social pressures are strong and they are still trying to figure out how to "fit in."

Talk to Tammy....

a good talk is always the best way....
Kids may have various reasons you know. They are very sensitive. Although most commonly, it's because they become envious or jealous of each other that they tend to be evasive or maybe they just had a minor misunderstanding.

Talk to tammy then try to talk to her parents too..

Ask your "good friends" why thier daughter is acting that way, or better yet ask them to ask Tammy why. There must be a reason, children just don't act "snotty" for no reason, especially at that age. Are you sure you still have "good friends"?

Sounds like Tammy has found a new set of friends.

You have been let down as children. Deal with it on that level and let her know how special she is and that everything will be just fine.

Life goes on, and she has other friends...not to mention the ones she has yet to meet

In the meantime, deal with the grieveing

You're the parents, so act like grown ups. Talk to Tammy's parent's. You said they were good friends of yours.

There could be so many reasons for her to snub you suddenly. You can't fix it unless you talk about it.

I THINK YOU NEED TO GO TO THE MOM ASK HER WHY SHE THINKS THAT TAMMY IS BEING THE WAY SHE IS!! IF SHE WANTS TO BE LEFT ALONE THE BEST TING TO DO IS TO GO STRAIGHT TO YOUR GOOD FRIEND AND ASK HIM/HER WHY THIER DAUGHTER IS REJECTING YOU UGTS!

I agree you need to go ask her parents or her if something is wrong! Maybe she has found some kind of bad distraction like drugs or something. Just be cautious!
