Honky Tonks are bars, but not all bars are honky tonks. A honky tonk is usually a small southern country and western bar, playing only country & western music, and they were generally all white people. Thats also how the word Honky came about refering to white people, and they were a little more redneck compared to only bars. Honky tonks became associated mainly with lower class bars catering to men 40+ years ago.
