"Bunt." That would be a base hit or a fielder's choice. Reaching first on an uncaught third strike can be scored two ways as well: a wild pitch or a passed ball.

A balk never advances the batter-runner.

I'm wondering whether anybody here has ever even seen a rule book, much less understood it.

This is one of those old-time baseball riddles. The ways are:

1. Hit
2. Walk
3. Hit by a pitch
4. Advancing to first dropped third strike
5. Error
6. Fielder's choice
7. Catcher's interference
8. PINCH RUNNING for a player at first base

That's right, you can to first base by pinch running for someone. Indeed, a bunt that gets a player to first base counts either as a safe hit or more likely as a fielder's choice or an error.

I'm glad Ryan R has seen a baseball game, a bunt can't be different than an error, base hit, or fielders choice. and troll bomb, i think you're lost....you don't know anything about the game, don't answer a question. balk....nice job Einstein.

And to the Undertaker, I understand your thinking, but a pass ball strike three is not an error. It's simply a pass ball, and strike out in the book.

There are 7 - H, BB, HBP, E, FC, K, and CI.

Playing baseball for almost my whole life, I too have read most of the rule book.

I can't believe she didn't know that a BUNT is either a fielder's choice or base hit.

And you can only run on the last strike if the catcher misses the ball (drops or wild pitches also count). Which is in turn an error. Which error was she talking about?

Fielder's choice, walk, hit, error (including fielding erros and dropped third strike), cather interference, and a balk with three balls prior to it (although this may be considered a walk I'm not sure), and being hit by a pitch. I've got seven and think that's all of them because there is nothing special about a bunt.

what about the ball Bob Brenley hit that got stuck in the ceiling of the astro dome or the ball Darrel Strawberry hit that struck the bird in Montreal? I don't put much credence in umpires opinions since I`ve seen plenty of blown calls on their behalf. The ball Brenley hit would have been caught in any other ballpark and Strawberry's what can any one say, fowl interference

Hit by pitch
Fielder's choice
Catcher's interference
Dropped third strike
Ground ball hits a base runner
OK that's 8!!

You forgot balk. A balk is called if the pitcher starts the delivery to the plate and does not (for whatever reason) complete the pitch.

Good one...but to the the guy above me (2 above I think), a balk can't get someone to first from home. Only anywhere else.
