We live in a society that emphasizes the accumulation of material wealth. Everywhere you look there is something in the media that tells you to be this or have that, this only works to make rich people richer, poor people poorer and starving children die.

Entertainment is a means to distract us from all the bad things that happen in our world. In a way the majority of us in North American Culture are sheltered from things like: the starving children in Africa or the many people who are traded and kidnapped for the sex trade in asian countires. Entertainment indirectly, i suppose, allows us to forget all that is happening around us. There is nothing that can be done about the entertainment business, it will always be around to distract us but we can choose to educate ourselves of the atrocities that occur in our world and in some small way try to make a difference. If we all, who have the means, did something small like donate to a shelter or some organization we can begin to see major changes to our world that are positive.

In our home, we don't have cable, satellite, or even local TV channels. We do not care to be entertained and we care very much about the hurts and trials of other people. We also know we are very blessed to live in a county like ours. The greatest country in the world.
