I have seven daughters and they all are different. My youngest was walking by seven months. I'm sure it is because she had incentive or something to push her along. She simply wanted to be with her sisters where ever they went, this spawned an interest in crawling, once mastered, standing while holding on was next. Finally, she was sick and tired of not being able to keep up with them so she forced herself to find balance and walk. Whatever you do, don't be afraid of them getting bumps and such, that's how we all learn. Too much of anything is bad for us even mother's watchful eye.

I wish parents would stop getting so worried over the small things! She'll sit up and crawl and all that WHEN SHE'S READY! Every child is different. And if she's a preemie, it'll take even longer. My daughter is turning 1 in 3 days and she's only barely been able to sit on her own since she was 11 months old, and isn't anywhere near crawling yet...but she's a micropreemie (born 3 months early), so she has a lot of catching up to do. And that's normal! I take the natural approach to parenting. She'll do it when she's ready.
Also, ask your pediatrician what they think...chances are they'll give her another couple months to figure it out before they start looking into any kind of physical therapy (which I doubt she'll need).
In the meantime...you can buy your daughter a soft carpeted area-rug to roll out onto the floor so she can have a little more floor time to figure out the sitting and crawling. That's what we eventually had to do for our daughter...our floors are hard here too. =P
I wish you and your daughter the best. =)

your baby should have been sitting up at 6 months. You will need to put a blanket on the floor and you sit down on the floor with the baby with pillows around the baby, and hold the baby's hands while you are sitting in front of her, and hold her up in the sitting position, and as she starts to become more sturdy than let her hands go so she can learn to balance herself. The baby will not learn how to sit up on her own unless you teach her. You can also sit on the bed with the baby, and practice.
Crawling is taught also. Get on the floor with the baby make sure you have a blanket down, and you get on your knees and crawl around, and let the baby see you crawl around, and help the baby to her knees, and work her knees in scooting position, and crawling position. you have to practice with your baby very regularly so she will pick up what is being taught, and her confidence will build her up to where she will want to take off on her own, and eventually she will take off on her own.

She'll do it soon, I'm sure! My 7-month old just mastered it this past week. If you have a pack n play, let her practice in there since it's softer. My daughter throws herself ALL over the pack n play, but all the exercise is great for her and she has so much fun. :)

this is normal development. try putting down a big blanket for her if the floor is too difficult for her to sit up on. and you can buy an inexpensive area rug for your apartment if you aren't wanting her to be on the hardwoods. but honestly my baby has had more fun and gotten more traction to learn how to do things, in my kitchen the only room in my house with hardwoods. good luck.

well its ok but if she isnt practising she isnt going to do it...let her practise with u there or go and get this pillow called a Babysitter, it is awesome, also good for breastfeeding...u can pick it up at Toy R Us and they sit IN it and if they fall, the pillow surrounds them to protect them,....I have one and my 6 1/2 mth old has been sitting for nearly a month already...i let her sit in it quite a few times a day for about 10 minutes at a time and now she can sit without it on, i started doing this at 3 mths old...she needs to strengthen her back...but remember if u sit with her nothing can happen...good luck

every child is different, so when is alittle hard to pin down. if you're worried about hard surfaces. put down blankets for her to crawl on. u have nothing to worry about, just try to help her with blankets to crawl on. babies are amazing, they just need alittle help, they do the rest on their own. if for any reason u think she's not developing as she should, seek professional help. my first son didn't start talking until i sent him to speech lessons. turned out he was hyperactive.whatever the case, don't blame yourself, stuff happens. u find a way to deal. be cool , pam

She should be able to do it soon. Try putting blankets down under her and pillows around her, so if she topples over she won't hurt herself....I think mine sat up at about 7 months....

MY SON WAS SITTING UP AT ABOUT 4 OR 5 MONTHS, AND CRAWLING BY SIX MONTHS. SO SHE SHOULD BE SITTING UP SOON. BUT YOU HAVE TO LET HER TRY TO SIT UP ON HER OWN. SIT HER ON THE BED AND YOU SIT WITH HER AND DO IT THAT WAY.
