Is it possible for just anybody to paint a masterpiece, win Wimbledon or write a bestseller? How much is purely down to genetics? Does the genetic part always show itself early (i.e. she was a natural tennis player at 11 years old) or can the genetic part show much later due to the help of additional training?

Can no real natural ability be turned into something special by endless training?

IT'S possible to do almost anything if you put enough effort and a bit of luck into doing something

both genetics and hard work come into play here. There are certain things that you possibly could not do, no matter HOW hard you worked (eg I am pretty certain I could never have won wimbledon, even if I had started training when I was three - not very sporty :).

But, there are some people who have a slight natural abillity and then it just comes down to working very very hard at it. (Look at Lance Armstrong - he is naturaly a sporty person, he has always loved sport and cycling, but does he just hop on his bike on the day of the tour de france? no, training is his life, he works very very hard at it).

THEN, there are people who just have the talent and they have to do very little to get it out, think of some people who write best selling books, some just sit down and write and its a best seller!

So, I guess I'm trying to say its a combination of the two in various degrees in various circumstances

I believe everyone is the best at something. Maybe what they are the best at just isn't widely known or appreciated.

Pele could still have been the greatest footballer on the planet but if no one played football then we'd never know.

But I have seen enough people try to know that dedication alone will not ensure you rise to the top of any discipline.

YES!!! - a masterpiece(like Beauty) is in the eye of the beholder

so even if 1 person says ''BAH, that looks like u vommed on a wall'

someone els might say ''wow!!! what a random but colourfull picture!!!!''

(dont listen to the first person - negative people are always WRONG!!!!)

peace out :)

yes yes and yes again even people with natural ability have to train. this term natural ability has never been proved,it may be that as kids they did something else which complmented what they put there hand to in later years.

It takes technical skills as well as natural talent. It has to have something quite unique and innovative about it; a true creation that turns into revelation.

It should be clear from personal experience. And once you paint a masterpiece you stop being just 'anybody'.
