Like cells, viruses have nucleic acids and proteins (by the way, there are thousands of RNA viruses), reproduce using these nucleic acids, undergo transcription and translation. Some viruses have membranes too, but they don't serve the same biological functions that cell membranes do.
Unlike cells, viruses don't metabolize, don't have organelles, and have no cytoplasm
Most virologist will tell you viruses are very much alive. There are plenty of bacteria and fungi that exist in dormant spore form until they encouter their host, but we still consider them to be alive.

viruses are made up of nucleic acids like DNA or RNA (only a few) with a protein coat called capsid. With this structutre they do not show any living feature, becoz they do not possess cellular machinary. However, when viruses infect their respective host cells, they begin to show their living activity like metabolism, reproduction etc. So, they become active with host cell's machinary but using their own genetic material.

Like - has proteins and either DNA or RNA
Unlike - Virus:
-- has no cytoplasm, organelles, plasma membrane
-- does not use energy or exchange gases
-- does not reproduce itself

I'll put this as simply as I can:
Virus: Nothing but DNA/RNA
Cell: DNA/RNA plus the basic functions of life.

Viruses are not living organisms under some definitions of life. The answer above says why. However, where he says "does not reproduce itself", he is wrong. They encode their own replicase enzymes to reproduce themselves but they need host ribosomes for translation.

D. They declare viruses are not residing. extra like machines. yet that's a flaw in scientific thinking; if it does not stick to human widely used rules, it may desire to be non-human. fact is, no person is conscious In precis: D
