Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. Of his movies that I have seen that is probably his best. And of course Waterworld was the worst...

Bull Durham, without a doubt. As a baseball fan, I think it may be the best baseball ever made (far better than Field of Dreams, by the way). As a romantic, my wife thinks it's one of the most romantic movies ever made. Great combination for a couples' movie. On top of that, it's a great comedy. All around excellent entertainment.
Also, it's early enough in his career that Costner is not overacting. He really makes the role come alive. And he has to share top billing equally with Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins (who met in the making of this movie).
---By the way, a great funny answer to this question would be The Big Chill. It was his first movie, and he is the character who kills himself and whose funeral brings everybody together. But every line he had was cut. The only part he still plays is the dead body in the coffin.

wow!!i'm a wide fan of Kevin Costner!!listed less than are my maximum acceptable fave video clips of him: a. The Bodyguard b. Robinhood c. Waterworld d. The father or mom he's this variety of very good actor and delightful,too!! although he's somewhat previous now~ yet he continues to be staggering besides!lol!

Only two come to my mind very quickly. The first one is the one I think he did his best acting job in and that would have to be Dances with Wolves. The second is the one which I enjoy watching the most and that is Water World. He did several other good ones, but its hard to top these two.

Fandango. I think this was his first one. It's about 4 friends after graduation going on a road trip before one gets married and the other goes to Vietnam.
