food. I just changed the water and the tank now has an horrible smell and cloudy. WHAT IS WRONG WITH MY FISH. Changed water on 1/20/07 and it now looks dirty. What is the bump in front on his mouth and is he about to die? HELP PLEASE

It sounds like he might have a fungal infection. We had a Betta for five years, if you can believe that, and he would get little bumps after about 2 years. Go to WalMart or a petstore ASAP and get anti-fungal drops and follow the directions. Do it soon, or he will continue to get worse and won't get better.

is what is on his mouth look like white cottony fungus? its not a fungus its a bacteria -- he needs antibiotics -- use maracyn
sometimes something totally random will make the bacteria in your tank go crazy. just clean it out every couple of days and it should be better. if you use maracyn in the tank or bowl it will take care of it and your fish if it is columnaris.
if he has eaten regualarly he can go a few days without food no problem -- if you are worried try feeding him frozen bloodworms or daphnea -- they can't resist that stuff.
