Check your memory first to see if you need more ram, if it's over 50% it's a good idea add more. If you're running dial up vs. dsl that's a major slow down. Check to see if you're pc is set up to do automatic clean ups of temporary files, etc. then run start-all programs-accessories-system tools-disk defrag. to make your operation run faster.

Ram will help out. 10-20% increase in speed. Winxp recommended is 1gb of ram. Harddrive is pretty small, almost sounds like a win95/98/me machine upgraded with XP. It would dramically speed up putting Win98 back on if that's the case. XP wants a lot of power, cpu, memory, harddrive, video card, ect.

And Xp takes 1.5gb of hardrive space, win98 only 200mb (.2gb). And if that is an old computer, it would be better (probably cheaper) getting a new computer then trying to get parts for it.

First - your RAM. 128 is NOT enough for WinXP.
Minimum is 256, better is 512. I run 1024 which is smooth sailing.

Your harddrive - 6 GB of which 1.5 GB is used by windows is leaving you with 'only' 4.5 GB.

Considering this - i`d say you can most likely do better by buying a new PC than upgrading this one, as this one would be around 6 to 7 years old (am i right?)

Your computer will run better with a higher capacity hard disk and an extra RAM chip. Both of them are too small to run xp properly

First I'd check your Hard Drive to see if it's nearly full, (if it is, that's one cause of slowdown).
Next, (if you have plenty of HDD space available), I'd at least double your RAM to 256... (512 is better).
That should do it, (unless of course you have an old computer with an old CPU, in which case there's not much you can do except buy another motherboard with at least a 1.5 GB CPU!).

P.S. Also, make sure you "Defrag" your HDD to make it more efficient!!!

Check you HDD for rpm yours maybe at most 5400 rpm. Change one to IDE 7200 rpm, which will increase your search time, The IDE cable to be change to ATA 100 or higher, If your system is runing on P3, Check your mother number and search on the internet for its limit on the maximum RAM to be added on. Some P3 board only able to support up to 512 MB. Else look at the motherboard and hunt for dimm slot, gereral perception is if you have 2 slots max at 1024 MB. Next is your VGA card is it at AGP slots or PCI slots or is it a shared RAM?
