It all depends on you,Some people sleep for 6 and some for 8 hours and some even more then that.If you are stressed or drink anything that contains caffeine than its likely that you are going to sleep for less hours and thereafter the stress follows and so on.
An individual is supposed to sleep for an average of 8 hours and not below 6 .hours.
GOOD LUCK!

It really just depends on the age that you are. Say infants need about 8 to 9 hours of sleep, toddlers and young children and get up to 7 to 8, people 12 and up till about senior need 6 to8 hours of sleep, while seniors need 8 to 9 hours of sleep.

Although many factors influence how much sleep you really need, most young adults need about seven and a half hours on weekday nights and eight and a half hours on weekend nights. And the common recommendation is eight hours a night. But individual needs vary greatly. There are so-called short-sleepers and long-sleepers -- those who need as little as five and a half hours to as much as about nine and a half hours.

How much sleep you require depends on several factors including:
Your inherited genetic need
Your sleep hygiene (those daily activities you control, from drinking coffee or alcohol to smoking and exercise)
The quality of your sleep
Your 24-hour daily cycle known as the circadian rhythm

this really depends on the person and what type of lifestyle they normally lead.

studies show it's 8-10 hours for adults and 10-12 hours for children

but everyone is different-i know for me-if i get more than about 5-6 hours-i'm tired when i wake up and it lasts the whole night (i work graveyards).

That seems to vary from person to person. Some people need only 4 hrs per night and some sleep 10 or more. I personally like to get anywhere from 6-8 hrs per night.
