This unfortunatly, is a consequence of our history. Since the begining of time women were subserviant to men and thus culture has developed to a state where the work of women is underappreciated and graded lower to that of males. Through rallies and governmental petition this has changed somewhat, but research shows us that men are still paid more then women. What needs to change is the way society views women, they need to be viewed as equals to men in every way and even somewhat superior in other aspects. There should be laws created that give guidelines for how much people are paid based on thier experience and education not on their gender. I'm a male and i consider my-self a femanist, and i'm all for equality for everyone in our culture.

Men usually ASK for and demand more pay. For some reason, some women have a hard time doing that.
Also, more women than men work part time hours or work from home.
Lastly, many of the higher paying jobs are filled *largely* by men. It seems less women gravitate towards engineering, CEO positions, and Entrepreneurship. No idea why more women do not go into these higher paying positions.

Because employers don't feel women take work seriously. They believe we're just going to get married and have kids and leave. It's certainly more than we don't ask for it. I'm sure plenty of women have asked for more money and didn't get the job for doing so.
