I recently bought a laptop and i also got a wireless router for internet. I purchased the geek squad installation service to set up my router. Is this something that is pretty easy that i can do myself or should i still have them come out to set it up? It would save me a lot of money.

No you do not need the Geek Squad.. All you have to do is follow the instructions. You will hook up your cable modem to your wireless router. Then install the drivers. I would suggest to create a password and unique network name so no one can get into your internet. Hope it works!! You may write back to me if you have further questions!!

Skip the geeks.

It really is pretty easy. I bought a Linksys and the installation CD made it fairly painless.

I considered the Geek Squad. The store offered a discounted price for their service if I scheduled their installation service at the time of purchase. I decided to try to do it by myself. I DID IT!

I suggest that you get a refund on the installation.

Try to install the router on your own. If you aren't successful, call the 800 # in the router instruction booklet for help. If you don't have a working router after all that...

Return the router back to the store. Repurchase the same router and schedule the geeks. That way, you can get the discounted installation price with the purchase-after the fact.

I did have to call Linksys for help. I bought a wireless-g w/booster version 6. That version is outdated. Linksys had to walk me through the update.

Good luck!

I do not have the geek squad in my area, but a couple of years ago, I called a local guy to help fix my computer, and he charged me $100.00 for the work, and I gave him a $20.00 tip. I always give people who come to my home to do some work, a tip, if they do a good job. I want to make sure they will come again, if I need them. That's just me though, it's the way I think..But it works!!

You should get them to come out to your house. After several geeks set up your router, seduce all of them with your edible underwear. You will then have seduced the geek squad!

Best Buy is WAY TOO EXPENSIVE! Usually when you buy a new item like tat, and have the slightest idea of how to set it up, It has a toll free number with Tech Support! They are great. They guide you thru the process step by step. SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!

do it yourself. It is easy. if you can work a computer, you can program the router. The book gives step by step instructions. Just remember to use WEP encryption to keep others from stealing your speed. Just read the book, and follow the instructions. It really is very easy.

Technically an easy reading of the manual should get you by.
also your Internet technician might be able to help.
Mine was plug and play.
