If its fench you want to learn... you can learn it anywhere. But if you had to live and learn........ head to FRANCE that would be a better option than Pondy.... just kidding...

Though it was under French for a long time..... very very few people speak french. So i think like above advised Alliance Francais is a better option. Alliance francais is a french school...... completely dedicated to teaching french and french culture.

The French had their final lesson at Assaye.
By the way, Pondicherry was not a French colony, just a trading base.

Puducherry, as it is now known, Mahe(Kerala coast) and Karaikal (Andhra coast) are the only places in India with a French colonial history. there are many locals and long term visitors who speak French.
But the Alliance Francaise in New Delhi and other cities is a great place really, to actually join French classes. Delhi branch is at South Extension.
