I'm 14 weeks along and I tripped and fell going up concrete stairs and I hit my lower stomach really really hard to where it hurt to stand straight for a few minutes. I was just wondering if this could really harm the baby. I haven't had any bleeding yet but I do feel sharp pains for a few seconds in my lower abdomen on my right side every now and then, and my back on my right side is killing me. I couldn't go to the ER tonight cause it's way too late and the hospital is slow with patients, but I am going tomorrow afternoon since I have a funeral to attend to in the morning. But I'm hoping maybe I don't have to and the baby's fine, I just need some opinions and suggestions. And trust me I'll be WAY more careful going up those stairs.

Here's some more info on it, the funeral is my husbands fathers so I can't skip it. It was about 12 am when I asked the question, and even though I'm pregnant the hospital still makes me wait extremely long, our hospital sucks. And my ob/gyn is out of the country for the next 2-3 weeks and she doesn't have anyone filling in for her. I'm also on her "low-priority" list so I wouldn't be able to see another gyno. But tomorrow afternoon around 3-4pm I will be going to the ER no matter what. I'm not really stressed out, cause I know it can actually make the matter worse, and I'm a little worried but I put that in the back of my head so it doesn't disrupt me. And I also wanted to say thank you all for your answers, I feel a little assured but I'm still getting checked out tomorrow no matter what.

Try not to beat yourself up, it's not like you were trying to fall down a flight of stairs on purpose! Accidents happen, even when they make us worry as much as something like this. It's not likely that the baby is actually hurt. At 14 weeks, the baby is still really small and protected by the amniotic fluid/sac, which is like the baby being surrounded in bubble wrap. when I was almost 8 months pregnant, I did something really stupid: I belly flopped onto an inner tube in the pool. It hurt like heck and knocked the wind out of me and I was very sore afterwards. I called my Dr. to ask if I needed to come in, and after asking me some questions he decided it was ok. He asked if there was any bleeding or cramping, and most importantly he asked if the baby was still moving as frequently as he was before I hurt myself. Definitely get checked out as soon as possible, you may even call your dr. so you can at least speak with someone over the phone before tomorrow afternoon. Better safe than sorry, but baby is probably just fine.

You need to go in. I fell when I was pregnant and thank God I did not hurt the baby but as I got further along I was hurt I had ripped some of the muscles in my stomach and as my stomach grew the pain got worse. Pregnancy is not the time to not want to be bothered by long waits. Most ers take prenant women right back. It is better to go and be at ease than to not go and wonder. Even if nothing is wrong you do not need to put yourself through any undue stress. Do you have an urgent care? Can you stop by your doctors on the way to the funeral? I hope everything is okay. I dont want you to think eveyone is coming down on you but things can go wrong so quickly it is better to be safe than sorry.

I would get checked out when you can, but if you have had no signs of bleeding then I would think that the baby is fine. They are in their own little cocoon and very well protected.
I grabbed hold of an electric fence when I was 20 weeks pregnant and got quite a shock. I had to sit down for some time as I felt horrible. My daughter was fine.
Just get yourself checked out as soon as you can so you can stop worrying.

With all do respect to the dead, I would go see my doctor and pay my respects later. At 14 weeks your fetus may not be moving yet. I'm not a dr but a mother of two and a stomach sleeper who ocassionally woke up in a.m on my stomach in a panic because I thought I may had killed my unborn, every trip the dr turned out ok. If you've fallen and having pain the best thing to do is seek the advice/opinion of your OB/GYN.

Babies are very well protected in the womb. My doctor once told me that I would really have to hurt myslef seriously before I could hurt my baby. Fortunately that didn't happen. Sounds to me like you are up and walking around and the baby is probably fine. Call the doc in the morning and ask if thre is any reason to be concerned. I'm guessing you will both be fine.

I think your baby will be OK but go to the doctor's and let them know what has happened. My husband has a hatchback and at six months pregnant I opened the hatched boot to fine that the springs on it are broken and it flew up whacking my tummy really hard. I too was out of breath. I went to the hospital and my OB assured me that everything was ok. To just be more careful and always expect the unexpected. Good luck.

According to the book "What To Expect When Your Expecting" a fall will probably not hurt the baby( the baby is well protected by the uterus.) But I would have an ultrasound or a fetal monitor just to be on the safe side!

Your baby is most likely fine. Pregnant woman are more prone to falling because their center of gravity is off. Your baby is protected inside you.
