How does anyone knows that somebody in the office is playing such a game? How do you play this game? Is this legal?

There is a book in the library named just that, and I think it is " the Art of Office Politics" or "Office Politics". But to better explain it you should watch a few shows like the new comedy "Office".
Sometimes it is getting the coffee, sleeping with the boss, stealing things out of the files from each other to make your reports look better. Paying people to back you up, sound familiar?
It is low life mentality. But it is legal unless you get caught.
Nepotism,like someone hiring their nephew even if he isn't the sharpest tac in the box? The best thing I learned was to buy a tape recorder and tape everything and everyone in the johns where ever. The game is always get the other guy before he/she gets you and takes your job, or you take theirs. Not a nice game is it? Good luck?

It means you go with the flow, bend with the wind, follow the most popular idea or person at the moment, do what ever it takes to get ahead. It's played in every office.
