When it's something I know is 100% correct, especially if others have answered incorrectly. Also if there aren't many answers.
If I see 20 answers that are correct, I won't bother, but lots of times, I don't think people are answering correctly and that is the time I will typically answer.

I like to answer valid questions that I have the answer to, or can find the answer. (Not the "what's your fav band?" or "who's better x or y?" kind of questions.) I like being able to help people without having them in my face. On Y!A I can sign out when I wanna quit. :)
