the terrific thank you to work out them is on a funky clean night, and outdoors the cities the place the glow of streetlights and homes won't block the view. the only place I ever observed them in 40 years right here grow to be on the TransCanada street between Calgary and Banff Alberta around 8-9PM. i think of it grow to be March or April. We have been on a bus headed for some spring snowboarding at Lake Louise whilst the bus driving force pulled off the line and permit actually everyone get out to visual demonstrate unit it for 10-quarter-hour. And as others have mentioned, they do no longer ensue each and all of the time. So do no longer anticipate them on your holiday or you're able to be disillusioned.

During periods of extreme solar activity, the aurora borealis has been seen as far south as Washington DC in America.
Generally speaking though you'd have to be in northern Canada, Scandanavia, or Iceland to be able to see them on a regular basis.

On very rare ocassions, it can be seen in the south of Ireland.
But you need a really clear night and at times that can be rare here!
It depends on what and how much is released from the Sun, I think...
