What's the name of the movie where Johnny Depp plays a character who is a writer in London in about 17 or 18th century, I believe. He plays a crazy guy who is not afraid exploring his sexuality. Another detail that I remember is that the King of England or whoever was in charge of the country threw him out of London for few months but then brought him back because the King needed Johnny's character to write him a speech. Do any of you remember the title of the movie?

You might be thinking of "The Libertine"
...its the story of John Wilmot (Depp), a.k.a. the Earl of Rochester, a 17th century poet who famously drank and debauched his way to an early grave, only to earn posthumous critical acclaim for his life's work.

The Libertine (2005)
'The Libertine' follows the adventures of John Wilmot, the second Earl of Rochester, in London of the 17th century. He has a passionate romance with a young actress, Elizabeth Barry, and he writes a scurrilous play which lampoons the monarch who commissioned it, Charles II, leading to the Earl's banishment and eventual downfall.

The Libertine - and what a glorious f**king romp it was too (in-character reply!).

He played the true-life character, John Wilmott, the 2nd EARL of Rochester, and the enigmatic John Malkovich played King Charles II. Delightfully gloomy but the critics gave it a bashing.

If you are into rock n roll poets in frills, you should check out the Parisian deviant, Baudelaire.
