I'm pretty sure that they're the same diameter but a .357 round is longer and holds more powder. So i think you can fire a .38 round from a .357 weapon/gun but you can't fire a .357 round in a .38 weapon/gun.

No, in fact if you have a 357 you can shoot 38 ammo with it and you will notice the huge difference. i often use 38 ammo for target practice in my 357 because its much cheaper then the 357 bullets.
