it depends on the quality of the work. If it doesn't really show that the student has learned anything, or worse seems to be plagiarized from somewhere, than for their own good the student should have to repeat the class.

Seeing everyone elses answers makes me want to play devil's advocate. There are cases where it would be wrong to fail a student who turned in all their work but failed the tests. For example, what if all the students failed the tests. That would mean that the test did not correlate with the material and homework and the students should not all fail the class because of that. The teacher should reevaluate what the students learned and how much work they did and their grades should be based on that. That being said, in general the teacher should not make exceptions for students. If in fact the grades are based 90% on tests and a student fails all the tests, they should fail the class. It is only fair.

I agree with the other respondents. It would appear that you might have a desire to prove a point to someone against being, or having been failed. Life is tough. Shoddiness any where will keep you from moving forward. Be smart, learn all that you can and be as responsible as possible. Being a citizen that earns a legal income generally keeps their freedom, which should be important to anyone. Circumventing the system is dangerous. Do your work, leave play time for that time when ALL of your work is done, to the absolute best of your ability, having striven to achieve even more than the last time.

I am a teacher --have been for 8 years now.
Students should fail if the work they turn in is not correct or up to par. If what they turn in isn't right, then yes, they SHOULD and WILL fail. Its the law quite honestly. I have students who don't pass even tho their work is turned in--they just didnt do it right, therefore didnt master the material and will repeat the subject.

If you answer yes to the question 2 +2, then yes. Turning in incorrect work should be grounds for failure. Just turning in a paper does not constitute an acceptable or passing assignment.

Yes, if the work does not meet the standards set for the class. For instance, if you turn in a paper that is 50% incorrect, that should be a failing grade.

was the work what was asked for? Did it meet standards? Sort of like an employer who has hired an employee to assemble an item consisting of four parts. When the employee turns in items everyday like they're supposed to, but the items have only 3 of the 4 parts in them and the employer cannot then sell them should they keep the employee? um...NO. Okay, so the employee turned in work everyday, but the work was wrong.

If the student fails to perform and learn, then he has in fact FAILED the course, and should receive a grade that reflects the fact. I wish trying were enough, but it's not.

To pass a class you need to do a decent amount of work, and get decent grade on test. You cant do one or the other to pass.
Higher test grades are a reflection of the quality of work you do.
You cant just turn something in and expect to do well..
You should have higher expectations for yourself anyway.. You look like a chump, when you dont do the best work you can.
Now, I know you dont want to look like a chump, you want to look like you know what the heck you are doing with yourself, right?
So do it. :-)

If you got all the questions wrong you can't expect a reward for turning in your work. Maybe a D if the teacher really feels sorry for you.
