Always look for grates on walls for clawshottin' and cogs along walls for spinnerin'.
Look for circles of rocks, grass, flowers, etc. and turn into a wolf and dig in the center, there's usually a small cave with treasures.
Fish at various bodies of water, you can pull up some cool stuff.
Also, try not to warp everywhere, you find alot more stuff if you either take Epona for a long ride, run it as a wolf (especially at night with your sense on, good way to find poes), or (if you're patient) walk alot.
Finally, keep the Wiimote still, the jingling of the fairy may drown out the jingling of nearby golden bugs.

Some of the side quests are to collect all of the heart pieces, collect all of the poes, or to collect all of the golden bugs. There are various websites that say where to find all of those. That's about it for side quests I think.

there are a bunch of games at the lake, a fishing game, a balloon popping one, a ton of poes to collect, hidden skills to learn, Some of it depends on how far you are in the game as to what you can play.
