Fastest in what way?

Fastest road legal production car? Or fastest car period?

If we're talking road legal production car, the Bugatti Veyron holds most of the records. Don't expect that to last very long.

Okay, the world's fastest road legal car was the McLaren F1, this was superceded first by the Koenigsegg CCX, and then by the Bugatti Veyron, as far as I know this is the world's current fastest road legal car, I have heard of Barabus doing a car, but don't know how far they are on it.

List of street legal cars, available for sale to the public - in whatever country. Concept cars and "one-off" cars of any kind are not eligible.

Acceleration time must be at most 3.9 s.

Fastest model used for cars available more than one year.

Fastest tuned cars per manufacturer used if more than one engine upgrade available.

Per wikipedia policy, claims by independent tuners must be independently verified or else the cars are not eligible for inclusion.

[edit] By acceleration (0–100 km/h)/(0–60 mph)

European manufacturers quote 0-100 km/h (62 mph) whereas U.S. manufacturers quote 0-60 mph (97 km/h). This leads to discrepancies in comparisons.
