You have been so nice in your answers to my questions and if ignorance is bliss-I am truely blissful cause I have some pretty dumb questions such as this one. I really rely on your help. This is if you have Yahoo messenger. IM is Instant Message, where people can talk to you through a one-on-one chat setting. It's just if you want people to IM you or not.

Do you want random people to send you Instant Messages on your computer (while you are trying to email your family)? Then allow IM's
If you rather that people, you don't know, would leave you alone then don't allow IM's

People are eligible to send you an instant message. Or you just simply don't want to be bothered then you select the one where you don't allow it. :]

IM= instant messageing. you can turn it off if you like or leave it turned on. when on if u r on someones contact list they will be able to see that and contact you with a message.

It means that people are allowing you the question writer to contact them through their IM (instant messenger) or some people like myself prefer that you don't use my IM to contact me. =o)

It's asking you if you want to let people on yahoo answers contact you through yahoo messenger or not.

IM means instant message. You can elect to have people send you instant messages if they want, or not.
