You can play blindfolded. The person who is "it" says Marco all others must answer Polo each time. If the "it" person tags another person then the new person is blindfolded and it starts over

I have only seen it played on tv. Usually one person is blindfolded in a pool sometimes and yells "marco" and all the vitims must respond "polo" and thats haow the game goes. Until you capture some one and make them it. It must be another American made up thing I don't know where it came from. Marco Polo was an travler/explorer.

I dont know if this is the official version but as kids we used to play it in a pool.
'POLO' was 'blind' ( his eyes closed) and he would call out to the rest of the people playing.
polo would say 'marco'
and the rest of the people trying to get away from him would say 'polo'
If he were to catch (or touch) one of the other 'marco's' then that person would be 'polo' and the game would start all over.
Kinda fun in a pool but I couldn't see playing it blindfolded in a park or anyplace else where someone could bump into anything while trying to find the other players.
The simple answer is that it is another version of TAG!

yes...it is a stupid swimming pool game.
one kid closes his eyes and shouts "marco" and the other kids are supposed to shout "polo". the kid with his eyes closed is supposed to move toward the voices and try to touch someone. trouble, is, kids don't typically shout "polo" when the kid with his eyes closed is calling "marco" right next to them. then the "marco" kid is peeking half the time anyway.
i've never used or seen a blindfold used. it's usually a "spur-of-the-moment" game. i've never seen anyone "plan" to play marco polo. ...grabbing their towels and swim toys...oh, and don't forget the scarf for that riveting game of marco polo later!!!
stupid game.
