In the old days, teenagers didn't have to suppress urges of sexuality, they could get married after 8th grade. Now you may think that is silly, but let's be frank. Do you really have more freedom now? Do you really think today's system is better? Teens back then could get on with life and actually keep their first love for the rest of their lives. Is it any wonder that divorce rates were so much lower? The pressures for getting a high school education were minimal, and taking over the family business was the norm. You were young when you had kids, and so energetic and full of life that the stresses of raising the kids was reduced due to all the boundless energy inside. No wonder families were a bit larger too, seeing as you also had more child bearing years to build a family. Families were big, strong, and stayed together, and things were fairly stable.

Today, you must stay in school through 12th grade or the "system" comes after you, there is much peer pressure within school to do anything and everything with everyone. Love is just slang for sex, and you're not supposed to think about marriage until after you get a college degree and have a career lined up, and even then you'd better not have kids and take time away from that precious career, oh no. Meanwhile, you miss what you had when you were young, can't ever get it back, and wonder why your "Freedom" is more like slavery to education and a system that expects you to be part of the workforce.

I'd say teens had it much better in the olden days, and our selfishness and greed have created a system that we try to push as progressive, while we destroy ourselves in the process.

Teens from back in the day to from now is a very big change.
We have alot of different styles of clothing/fashion, Thank goodness because back then their clothes were very uncomfortable. And alot of them are lazy now theres not that much things to do but work & school. But the ones in the olden days worked very hard for all. Theres also a difference in the number of teens it increased alot becuase theyre was many diseases like smallpox that doesnt occur today. But well are still alike & go through the same things.
Take care

I like your question and I will give you with my honest and heart to heart answer.
This generation in my opinion are very smart and they can do so many things such as computer. game, music, dance, sport, sing, typing and writing.
This generation are thinking more about environment and the impact of global Warming.
I see many teenagers this era are doing more volunteer and community services.
By the way, they are interesting in Politics and want to volunteer in campaign and fun raising.
They also listen to music video,MTV and enjoy
I pod etc.
The new generation are very independent and achieve more than the olden days.
I am not surprise they are so well like among older people and everyone around them.
In religion, they are very easy with what to believe and willing to accept others religions.
Race is not an issue for them at all. I seldom hear their remark about others.Surprise
Gay or lesbian are very rare problem and I seldom see incident in this era.
These kids here are so live and happy.I see very few around me are depress or suicide.
The Con
They do live alone in the house that parents are working long hours.
They needs more affection from parents and the schools need to have more support for them. (Psychologist )
My opinion based on my volunteer for my 16 years in Public High school and Middle school in my community. So I am pretty much 75% sure the whole generation are doing well.

Back in the old days the most important thing was to please our parents and be a hard worker (if you were a boy), or being the perfect young pregnant wife (if you were a girl) that also cleans the house and makes dinner. Also back in the old day they dressed differently more clothes for instant...
nowadays, teenagers are having more freedom to live their own lives unfortunately the only thing they are doing is spending a lot of time on the phone and getting pregnant...

Teenagers in olden times had to work to survive, were already having children, did not get educations and could look forward to dying before the age of forty all in a world where they had few choices and little influence.

Teenagers today can look forward to a long life which they can pursue much to their own choosing.

access to technology and freedom would be some. By freedom i mean the ability to be teenagers. Not that long ago teenagers worked to feed their family nowadays teenagers (some) work to get clothes, cars etc things "olden day" teenagers would never have dreamed of owning.

I believe there is greater pressure on to days teenagers than ever in the past because they have to at least get a college education to make enough money to live. They have more distractions than ever before with today's technology. They have greater peer pressure. They missed out on the good things in life like going on pic nics ,simple Christmases were you exchanged one gift Life was not so complicated years ago and you can have a lot more fun with the simple things that life has to offer

Teenagers from today lack respect in general.

This is mainly the result of the parents letting them on their own without supervision and letting them do whatever they want without a good spank once in a while..

I see them everyday in mass transit. Placing their dirty feet on seats, tossing spent beverage containers on the floor when there's a trash can 5 feet from them, cut the waiting line to get in buses, and if you have the guts to say something they almost spit on you.

I'm telling you... The big difference is RESPECT.
