My midwife gave me a list of meds that were ok to take and the only one for cough is Robitussun (plain only) and also zinc throat lozenges. I hope you get to feelin better, sounds like you are miserable. I also really like drinking Lemon and Honey tea, it helps with a sore throat and is safe also.

My OB/GYN says that PLAIN Robitussin is okay for chest congestion, and REGULAR Sudafed is okay for nasal congestion which can drip into the back of your throat causing you to cough. Be CAREFUL of taking cough drops, they can SOMETIMES be worse for your baby than cough medication. (It really just depends on what is in them.)
Look I am 6 months along and am getting over the FLU, so I just went through ALL this with my doctor today.
Do not listen to a pharmacist, listen to your OB - that is why he/she went to school to learn about pregnancy and delivery.
Edit: I read some of the other comments and I too want to add that you must stay away from stuff that contains asprin and ibuprofin. Asprin can cause you to have prolonged labor, and ibuprofin is an anti-inflamatory that delays bone growth - which is not harmful to us whose bones are grown, but is VERY harmful to an unborn baby.

My doctor told me sudafed pe for a stuffy nose, and robitusin dm for chest congestion/coughing. She also said that most over the counter cold medications are safe to use during pregnancy, now that they don't use pseudoephedrine. Its the one bad boy ingredient that you don't want to mess with. You can also use hot water and honey.
*Don't use any herbals like white horehound or hyssop. They can cause uterine contractions.*

I really wouldn't, the only thing my doctor cleared me for was cough drops. But every woman is different, maybe call your local hospital and talk to a nurse, they always help.

Only Robitussin DM because it does not have harmful chemicals or alcohol. My OB told me this when I was pregnant with my twins.
