can anyone give info on the hobblers that worked in north devon ports?

I know they were the men who rowed out and towed the sailing vessels into harbour but I would like to know more...

I recently visited the National Maritime Museum at Falmouth, Cornwall (I live in Exeter, Devon myself) and they had quite a lot of material covering these men throughout SW UK.
