I've had my laptop for about 3 years, and i leave it on for most of the time and it hasnt had a problem as far as heating up goes. Only when i got a trojan horse on there, and it really had a hard time.
These days most laptops are designed to have a longer life span. There is a sense of truth to the statement that they do have liftspans, because they do. Only for a certain amount of time can electricity go through them until they die. They will wear out. I dont think that you would have a problem with your laptop overheating as long as the area is well ventilated, and you dont run to many programs at once.

But again the smartest thing i think to do when you go home from work, if you do, just turn you computer to standby or hibernate. This will cause that less electricity has to go through all of the parts and uses up your time more slowly.

Its definitely ok but since this is a Laptop or a Notebook computer i wouldn't recommend it. Every hardware component be it your Monitor Hard Disk or Even a Light Bulb has its own lifespan, unlike humans, this is measured in Hours instead of years. So by keeping your laptop on your wasting those precious hours, And since replacement parts are expensive for a laptop than a desktop it will not be at all advisable. But a desktop its kind of ok cos parts are abundant and also cheap. By the way check your battery to see its not one of those exploding ones that were recalled, in this case it very dangerous to leave it running cos the battery will explode and catch fire. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT MAKE SURE WHAT YOUR BATTERY IS. As for overheating No computers wont overheat unless their fans stop working, and even if they start overheating the BIOS will shut it down to prevent damage. Check your battery before anything.

Leaving your laptop on indefinitely won't injury it. it ought to shorten the existence of followers and difficultcontinual some however. Turning it off saves on capability. i for my section can no longer see leaving a working laptop or laptop on 24-7 once you continuously purely use if some hours an afternoon. That suggested, on older computers that have been warmth cycled lots might particularly loosen factors over the years and can must be reseated.

Yes you can leave it on for a week. Companies do it all the time.

No the laptop will not overheat. They are made with strict thermal requirements. As soon as it gets too hot, fans come on to cool it off. You can leave laptops on just like you can desktops.

However, I suggest using standby mode. This way you can save power and have a quick turn up when you're ready to use it.

know that your computer is still always in a state of dying. It is only a matter of time before your Power supply and Hard drive, fan, etc WILL fail. Having your computer on 24/7 and being connected to the "internet" allows people to more readily to get to your computer. The more time on the net, the more your address gets propagated.

Suggest when at home, use electric power supply. Use battery only when necessary. When battery is fully charged, and laptop is not in use, why leave it on?
