on backstreet in my town there's this vent thingy coming out of one of the buildings... It sounds exactly like when (in "It") the kid was getting sucked into the giant vent dealy.

Their pretend smiles? Their sad/crazy eyes? Their tears?

I think it is not just about clowns... although a clown disguise is meant to be friendly or for entertainment, it is still a disguise... and therefore instinctively arouses trust issues we have... I felt sorrow when I recently read the guy that played Bozo had passed away... Now there was a clown I trusted... In person though I think we perceive many clowns to be some less trustworthy character that is in disguise... too bad that can happen with Santas too...

Not afraid of them now but I do not like them. When I was very little (4 or 5) there was a toy in our dirt basement that was a bobbleheaded clown in a car. The clown wasn't smiling and it really frightened me then. Have not cared for clowns since. I might even need therapy........lol

YESSS!You are not the only one to suffer from fear of clowns. Most sufferers are surprised to learn that they are far from alone in this surprisingly common, although often unspoken, phobia.

Seeing clowns or even thinking about them can lead me to
breathlessness, dizziness, nausea, dry mouth, feeling sick, shaking, heart palpitations, inability to speak or think clearly, a fear of dying, becoming mad or losing control, a sensation of detachment from reality or a full blown anxiety attack. Sounds horrible, I know!

Fear of clowns is an intense fear of something that poses little or no actual danger so I dont know why I am so scared of them. While adults with this fear realize that these fears are irrational, they often find that facing, or even thinking about facing, the feared situation brings on a panic attack or severe anxiety...just thinking about it gives me shivers.

I remember my mom gave me a little clown figure for my room once! It was glass and cost lots of money but i was so scared of it. So i took the clown thing and threw it out my bedroom window...two stories high. Lol.

I'm not terrified of them, not even scared of them. Just mixed emotions from childhood. I don't like them. I think it's because their job calls for some kind of reaction, and they do push it-- shock hysteria, (shriek scream ha ha) or some children really are frightened, (tears, cuddling with parent etc.) As a child I just really never understood, and still don't get whatever value they are supposed to have for childhood entertainment. I probably confused the clowns more than they confused me. I just didn't react.

I'm not scared of clowns..I don't quite understand why anyone would be..it's like the chick from Jerry Springer who screamed at the sight of a pickle...? Just remember clowns are suppose to represent "happy people for kids"

I think most people are a little weary, if not downright scared, of clowns. I have been every since I saw a picture of John Wayne Gacy, a serial killer, dressed like a clown. Freaked me out!

Omg, I am absolutely terrified of clowns!! I've been afraid of them ever since I can remember too, and I'm not real sure why! I freak out at parades when they get too close to me! Good to know, I'm not the only one!

Don't feel bad b/c I can relate. They don't look friendly at all. If you get close to one you'll notice that they have bloodshot eyes which is from the make-up irritation. That just makes them look even more scary. I'm 31 years old and have always hated them.

I hate them. Mostly since the movie Poltergeist had the clown grab the kid from under the bed. EEEK!!!!!
