For the stove at least the electric is healthier for the cook. The money you save on gas, will be more than offset by the negative health effects.
I switched to a high end electric self cleaning oven-stove, with a glass top and heat lamps, and it is fantastic!

Grew up with electric dryer and range, mom still uses electric. For the last 30 years I have used gas appliances and will never switch back to electric. Gas is much better for cooking more control of heat. Gas dryer is more efficient. We too live in Michigan. You could check with the gas/electric company for your area and ask them which is cheaper.

I like cooking on a gas stove. Because you have more control over the heat. But I like my oven to be electric.
As for the dryer I have an electric one. I have ever used a gas dryer.
One thing you are right about gas been cheaper to run.

When we had natural gas installed, I now wish that I had a gas dryer. I prefer electric for my oven and burners. But 2 friends of mine had converted to gas driers, they love it, takes only half the time to dry their clothes and much cheaper on their electric bill. When I replace my dryer I am definately going gas.

You could run the numbers. A therm is a typical gas billing unit; it is an amount of gas containing 100,000 BTU's; it is just under 100 cubic feet. A BTU is 1055 watt-seconds, so you can calculate the cost of 100,000 BTU's worth of electricity and compare it with the cost of a therm of gas. Typically, electricity is three times as expensive. So it definitely makes sense to use a gas clothes dryer, but cooking styles differ, and one might prefer an electric range even though it will cost more to use.

Gas is cheaper, no dout about it. Gas also cooks faster and will dry your clothes faster. but at the same time it takes some getting used to because your clothes will get alot hotter if not carefull and will shrink more. some people prefer to cook on gas stoves because you get a better and more even heat. once again it just takes a little getting used to. If you already have gas running to the house I would definently switch, it is worth the savings...

I've never had a gas dryer but I definetely prefer a gas stove to an electric one. It cooks more evenly and you can still use it if the power goes out. And it does cost less.

Gas is best for a stove but I think electric is better for a dryer.

Well if she insists on electric to cook on that already tells me she cannot cook to good. Electric strip heating is the highest cost of any appliances to run period. Tell her she can have the blowdryer and the coffee pot but you want a gas range and dryer so each get two appliances but I think mom will win anyway.
