my son ,9 yrs old ,walks like a someone you would find doing in a fashion show ,well like a model naturally would do in a fashion show with hips swaying and all that . My question , is there a way to change the way he walks. I am deeply concern as he is being teased by his schoolmates on the way he walks.

There is a way. You can change the way he walks by putting him into a sport that requires body awareness. The best example would be gymnastics. You can tell a gymnast by the way he/she walks because as the skills are learned, the skeletal shape of the body changes slowly from all the "pounding". Martial arts would be good, but even track and field or anything that requires "form" will develop the body awareness in which case changes can begin. It's all positive. Instead of trying "not" to do something, you replace it with something else more constructive "to do". It's not a quick fix, but even if he insists walking that way, at least he will build some skills in something.

U cant really change how someone walks, u just do it by practice liek teach im a wway to walk and then maybe teach him how to walk normally instead of swaying his hips that way. but usually u dun need to be too worried. cus he will change when he grows up hes only 9 yrs old!

Ignore Julio.

Just address the way he walks with him and show him how you want you think he should try to walk. If he makes an effort to walk differently and is successful for about a week, it will eventually become a habit.

Very nice question..you got me racking out my brains on this one. I would say confront a doctor first. But in my opinion theres nothing much you can do to change the way your son walks. Its not like he tries to walk like that..unless he is a little girl stuck in a girls body..transgendered in other words, which is getting more and more common with kids nowadays. Does he show any signs of acting more like a girl than a boy, for example, wanting to play with a doll instead of a football? Don't get me wrong I am not saying he is I am just stating a fact...I'M sure he isn't so please don't feel offeneded! But you can contact your doctor. Sorry theres not much i can say, this a a tough question.

Why don't you ask him why he walks like that. If he says something like because he likes to, then adress it that way, if he says "like what?" then he probably has no idea of what he's doing and it might be a medical, or otherwise mental thing. (not saying something is wrong in his head), just don't be too hasty. Maybe you'll even want to ask him if people ever pick on him at school, if he says no, then why not just drop it. Kids walk funny, and they are usually trying to imitate someone, just talk to him to see whats up.

Ummm, why don't you just take him to a modeling agency and sign him up for some runway shoots? The only way he's going to be able to change the way he walks is if he concentrates on it and changes it himself. When I was young I noticed I was starting to walk with my toes out and I started walking with my toes in on purpose to correct it, now I walk normal.

Video him in action without him knowing it. Sit down with him, don't laugh about it, tell him that he needs to work on it., tell him that you are concerned that if he continues to swing his hips this way that people in High School will make fun of him. My father used to have us walk with a book on our head, it really will change the way that you move you're hips.

Ask him if he's aware of how he walks. Consult a physiotherapist. See if you can get him interested in running and find a coach. And don't pester him about it. It's enough if he's already being teased.

Give him heavy shoes, he'll have just enough strength to lift his legs and walk, not sway his hips too!

It sounds crude, but tell him to walk like theres something between his legs, and not like the ladies do.
