As in grief pain or a medical pain?

For medical pain, just be with them when every time you can and talk about something other than the medical problem unless they bring it up. Talk about a movie that came out the other day, or how there pets, family, or friends are doing.

For grief, invite her/him over or go over to her/his house. Bring or make some cosy food, such as cookies or soup, warm drinks are nice too. If he/she wants to talk about what is bothering them or causing the grief, open you heart, listen to what they are saying nod often and comment when you think the time is right. Never criticise what she/he says because that will bring more discomfurt. Talk to them about it that is the only way to help the pain. Time is also the best medicene.

Kinda depends on the ache. Physical pain: try my hands on the tired muscle or try to ease the mental strain that comes with physical pain. Mental pain: Try to make him laugh (or giggle..hehehe..he's so cute when he giggles!) & just do plain crazy stuff that takes him mind off of what is really bothering him (which I already know what that is) then try to do stuff (put on comedy stand up, cook a neat dinner, etc) to make life look a little bit brighter and smile alot- anything if it makes him feel better..

I listen to them.

Sometimes all people want is someone to listen, someone that cares enough to stick by their side.
Words don't even need to be said, it's just the act of being there, the power of your presence.

Some things I do are give them hugs, make them laugh, bring them their favorite food, take them out, watch movies, make them smile, try to take their mind off their heartache, and just hang out with them.

But sometimes they want to be alone and that has to be respected as well.

Yes. Boosting their faith in God. Taking them out to lunch, movies a walk in the park - whatever is appropriate for the particular situation.

Time is the best remedy, but being supportive and listening makes all the difference.

The most perfect shoulder is one that is there even when it doesn't know it's needed.
