Were you on bedrest for your first pregnancy...did you have to go on bedrest again for your second or third child?

I was on bedrest from 26 weeks with my first pregnancy. My cervix was thinning too early. They had given me a progerstone shot every week and an ultrasound every month to make sure everything was fine. I carried my son to term and had no other problems. I'm planning on getting pregnant again in the next few months and I'm worried that I'll have to go on bedrest again while still trying to care for my one year old.

I would think that you may be considered high risk from your first experience and would have to go on bedrest again. My son was born at 31 weeks but I started contracting and dilating at 28 weeks and was put on bedrest. With this pregnancy, my doctor wants me on bedrest at 24 weeks. Unfortunately, I'm in the same situation as you (even though my son is 6 1/2). It'll be hard to get him ready for school and on and off the bus and what to do with him during the summer (I'm due in August) when I'm on bedrest. If you do have to go on bedrest, maybe you can have a friend or relative come to help you with the baby and housework, grocery shopping, etc. for a few hours a day until your boyfriend/husband comes home from work. I wish you the best of luck and hope everything works out for you.

With my first pregnancy no i was not put on bedrest, my cervical issues where not caught until it was to late and she came into this world as a micro premature infant. However for my second we knew that I had cervical issues (my children are 13 yrs apart i was to scared to get pregnant again). I have an incompetent and dynamic cervix making me a very high risk pregnancy. At 14 weeks I had a cerclage performed to give me a better chance of carrying my baby. I had ultrasounds 2x's a month. At 25 weeks my cervix had thinned out and you guessed it I was put in the hospital and given 2 doses of steroids {more shots do not show any great benefit} when I got out I was on strict bedrest I could only get up to use the bathroom, I could only go down the stairs in my house once a day and up them once a day and when I showered I had to be seated. I then had ultrasounds weekly. At 32 weeks my cervix was not measurable on ultrasound so once again I was back in the hospital. My son came a month early as we expected he would and he was fine. If you are concerned about how to take care of your 1yr old while on bedrest I suggest you discuss with family members or friends the possibility they could come to your home and help you out. This is what I had to do regarding my daughter who is special needs... However every pregnancy is different and I wish you luck

I got put on bedrest during my first pregnancy because of preeclampsia. It didn't really work, so as soon as she was 37 weeks, they induced, which ALSO didn't work, and I delivered by emergency C-section after 52 hours of labor, 3 hours of pushing, and fetal/maternal distress.

I had preeclampsia again in my second pregnancy, but they didn't put me on bedrest. It wasn't as severe, and it didn't start as early, so they just scheduled a C-section at 38 weeks.

Every person and every pregnancy is different.

You may or may not have the same thing.

I think you need to work out if you did how would you cope with looking after your first child.

Where there is a will there is a way!
