Too much of the water soluble vitamins can produce nausea, vomiting, and diarhhea.
Too much fat soluble can do serious damage to your kidneys, liver, etc.
Vitamin A at high (but not toxic levels) turns your skin orange like a cheap bottle tan.
And while we're on the subject, some minerals, like iron, can be toxic at only twice the recommended dose, and iron poisoning has a high mortality rate.
It is better to eat a well balanced diet and use only supplements approved by your health-care provider.

Certain vitamins (like vitamin C) MAY pass through your system, however, if you take too much of other vitamins or minerals (like iron), they do not pass through your system easily and you could even die with an overdose- just like poison. Iodine, for example, is something your body uses (commonly found in seaweeds like kelp), but too much of this could be deadly! On the other hand, certain vitamins, like B12, are readily water soluble and difficult for your body to absorb. If this becomes a problem, you may even need to get B12 injections so your liver can store this vitamin for up to a month for all the organic chemical processes that are required involving this vitamin. My best advice, whether a vitamin may be considered water soluble or not, pay attention to the RDA standards that have been recommended over the years by professionals through experimentation. Do things in moderation unless you have a disease or particular deficiency because there is a general rule in poisons and chemistry- "the solution to pollution is dilution"! Take this the other way: "without dilution, pollution and poison could kill"! To much of anything, could kill you! It really depends on everyone's individual metabolism and physiology. For instance, on some rare occasions, certain people may be allergic to certain amounts water soluble vitamins, like vitamin C!

Your body will just get rid of them when you go to the bathroom. However, if you overdose on certain vitamins (usually the fat soluble ones) you can put your body in a state of toxicity. You would know if that happened.

It depends what type of vitamins. A excess amount of Water soluble vitamins will pass through your urine and are not harmful. A excess amount of Fat soluble vitamins can be harmful because they do not pass through the body and store themselves in fat pockets. For example if you had an excess amount of fat soluble vitamins stored in your fatty pockets and you become sick and stop eating your body will get its energy from the fat pockets releasing the large amount of vitamins poisoning the body.
