I'd say it's negligable, it may take more energy to start the fan up, than to leave it running, due to the fact that the fan carries momentum if left on and must overcome it and gain energy to get back up to speed. However the energy required may prove to be equal to a very short length of time of the fan's normal operating consumption. I wouldn't lose sleep about it.

We live in a home with cathederal ceilings, there are two fans set at different heights in the great room and they run year round to move air. In winter heat rises and the fans are set to move the air up which in turn moves the hot air off the ceiling and helps keep temperature even. In summer we reverse the fans to move air down which has the effect of cooling.

A ceiling fan will help pass the air to make the room a greater even temperature. It wont make the abode any 'cooler'. this is going to although enable you to take place the thermostat and 'look' cooler because of the fact the fan helps evaporate the sweat you have on you epidermis helping you experience cooler. The fan is powerful once you occupy a room or once you attempt to maintain a balace of cool air in case you have a concern section the place it is warmer in one section than the different.

Answer number one gave you a clue.

FANS are designed to cool people not Rooms. Certainly it makes little sense to turn one off everytime you leave a room, if you plan on returning from the kitchen in gathering snacks so you can get back to the TV, but if you aren't in the room, especially for any extended period, the FAN is just an AIR MOVER not chiller.

Yes. The fan keeps the air circulated therefore moderating the temperature. This helps conserve electricity by reducing the load on your heat or cooling system.

this time of year the fan will move warmer air from the ceiling to the floor and furniture allowing them to warm up so the room will be more comfortable when you are in there.

Fans use little energy and circulate air> Most of them have and adjustment for up and down. The up motion pulls the heat up the down to cool. I have one in almost everyroom and air conditioning. They are attractive and when they are on low somewhat relaxing.

No. Ceiling fans are to move air ACROSS YOUR SKIN. They have marginal benefit of air circulation with no one in the room. Mostly they just cost money to run. :)

I leave mine on all sping/summer/fall. I don't have air conditioning and it keeps the air going so it's not nearly so hot.
