I am writing a book call 101 reasons for not opening a restaurant. I am stuck half way and I need reasons why you do not want to open a restaurant.
Besides the normal reason like financial, staff and rent...need more real life situation reasons.

Yes of course, the reasons will be thier answers, thats why I need the reasons so that the new owners can see what they are gettin into. I am trying to save many people whom do not understand the business or what they are getting into. I hope no one writes the book yet!

I dated a man that owned a restaurant for years. Our love life totally suffered. I had to go to the restaurant to be with him, and we would rarely see each other outside of his restaurant, which I must say was a huge bummer for me. I loved him with all my heart but it eventually killed our relationship. Additionally, he worked 20 hours a day 7 days a week usually (I am not kidding) and took one day off a year (Christmas) and only half a day for the funeral of a family member. Sad. There are a few reasons for you!

Shouldn't you write a book on 101 reasons why you should open a restaurant? Why would you want to discourage people if that is a dream of theirs? If you try and fail, well that's life. If you do well then that's a dream come true.

Ummm ... you hate working with food?

You can't take the heat in a kitchen?

It gets tiring serving lousy food?

Dealing with the public can be a real hassle.

"The customer is always right" can be a hard pill to swallow.

Your chef may unexpectedly call in sick and you'll have to wear the 5am breakfast apron.

How about these reasons? :-)

If you're married, the fact that you'll hardly ever be home will stress the marriage.

If you're not married, you'll probably have to resign yourself to the fact that you will have NO social life for some years to come...
