Calculate the number of moles of potassium chlorate, KClO3(s), that must decompose to produce potassium chloride, KCl(s), and 1.80 moles of oxygen gas.

I'm not sure how to figure this out, but I tried it, and I got 0.6 moles of KClO3 for my answer. Is this correct? If not, how is it figured out?

Equation, equation, equation. Write it down and balance

I suppose we have
2 KClO3 -> 2 KCl + 3 O2
Note that oxygen exists as a di-atomic gas.
The equation says that 2 moles of the chlorate is required for each 3 moles of O2.
By proportion,
2 chlorate/3 oxygen = x chlorate /1.8 oxygen
So we wind up with 1.2 moles of KClO3.

Do a balanced equation, that's half the battle.

a million. you have the reaction acceptable. you gets a million mole of NH3 for each mole of N. (push aside the diatomic nature of N and H for this component of the situation.) From 28 g (2 moles or 2 x 14g) of N, you gets 2 moles of NH3, or 34 g. you have approximately 25 moles of H, and you in basic terms decide on 6; so as which you have have been given one greater of H. N is the proscribing component. you'll want 19 moles of H, or approximately 19 g left over. 2. contained interior the 2nd difficulty, you first decide to be sure out what huge variety moles of H are produced, then how lots H2 (diatomic) you have. each and every and each mole of a gas at STP occupies 22.4 Liters. A mole of H2 gas has a mass of two.0 g (or 2 x a million.0 g) by way of fact it extremely is diatomic. 3. specific, decomposition is a reaction the region some thing breaks down into distinctive compounds or factors. Do it the comparable way by way of fact the 1st difficulty. solid fulfillment.
